Welcome to the P-12 sTEm Education Initiative
The P-12 sTEm Education Initiative at Purdue University promotes pre-school through grade 12 student understanding of technology and engineering in formal and informal settings. Through a comprehensive research program, the initiative seeks to develop and disseminate practices proven successful in:
- Providing access to a broadly diverse population
- Increasing interest in engineering and technology
- Improving student academic achievement
- Promoting student learning of engineering and technology
- Developing a sTEm literate population
Through these foci, the initiative seeks to play a leadership role on the national and international level to inform policy and develop and participate in sustainable communities.
The P-12 sTEm initiative develops research-based, pedagogically validstrategies for effective teaching of engineering and technology beginning in pre-school and progressing through high school in formal and informal environments. Through appropriate educational experiences, the P-12 sTEm initiative seeks to provide access to engineering and technology career pathways to a more diverse student population and contribute to high level of Technology and Egineering literacy throughout society while also considering the integration of technology and engineering with science and mathematics. The initiative’s faculty will cultivate long term partnerships to stimulate personal growth, creativity, and lifelong learning that will motivate and prepare the next generation of professionals in engineering and technology to be leaders in our rapidly evolving global economy.
