High-tech job fair aims to match Indiana companies, Purdue students

Indiana companies looking for new employees can recruit from among more than 600 job-hunting Purdue University students at an Oct. 28 job fair.

Employers can register online for the 12th annual High Tech Job Fair for Indiana Companies at http://www.purdue.edu/jobfair. The event, offered by Purdue's Technical Assistance Program for in-state jobs only, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms.

Purdue to host Deming Institute conference

Business people and students from across the country will gather at Purdue University to explore the philosophy of the man credited with improving manufacturing processes and quality control in the United States and Japan.

The W. Edwards Deming Institute Fall Conference will be Oct. 10-11 in Purdue's Stewart Center.

Purdue to participate in tuition program to support veterans

Military veterans, reserve and active duty military students attending Purdue University's West Lafayette campus and the Technology Statewide sites can use the Yellow Ribbon Program to help pay for their education.

The Yellow Ribbon Program, which is an enhancement of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, will be available Aug. 1. The program lowers tuition costs that would not be fully covered by the GI Bill. Assistance will be awarded to the first 50 Purdue undergraduate, graduate or professional students who qualify. Purdue will contribute $2,000 per academic year, and the Department of Veterans Affairs will match that amount.

CoT co-hosts summit for Indiana Electric Utilities

Representatives from Indiana’s electric utilities met with faculty and administrators from Purdue’s College of Technology and Discovery Park Energy Center on May 8, 2009, to discuss the future workforce and technological needs of the industry.

Purdue at Kokomo offering technology training to teachers

Project Lead the Way teachers from around the country will gather this month and next at the Purdue College of Technology at Kokomo to learn how to help their students develop interest and skills in engineering and technology.

Project Lead the Way is a national nonprofit program that provides middle and high school pre-engineering and technology curricula. The first session is June 15-26, and the second is July 6-17. More than 160 teachers — about 140 of them from Indiana — will attend the two sessions.

College of Technology offering array of summer camps

Purdue's College of Technology is sponsoring a variety of camps this summer geared toward attracting students from diverse backgrounds to technology-related fields.

Antonia Munguia, the College of Technology's director of diversity, said the goal of the camps is to help students, especially women and minorities, learn more about academic pathways in technical careers.
