The RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft system is used by the U.S. Air Force as an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. Cruising at altitudes of more than 60,000 feet, it can survey large geographic areas with pinpoint accuracy, giving military decision-makers real-time information regarding enemy location, resources and personnel.

The Yellow Ribbon Program, which is an enhancement of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, will be available Aug. 1. The program lowers tuition costs that would not be fully covered by the GI Bill. Assistance will be awarded to the first 50 Purdue undergraduate, graduate or professional students who qualify. Purdue will contribute $2,000 per academic year, and the Department of Veterans Affairs will match that amount.

The team, which proposed a free Web-based contest to help high school government teachers educate students, was awarded $9,000 as one of five winning projects.
