OLS professor to present free leadership workshop in Indianapolis

Purdue University's Manufacturing Extension Partnership will offer a workshop on Nov. 20 in Indianapolis that will focus on leadership. Rodney Vandeveer, a professor in Purdue's organizational leadership and supervision department, will lead the workshop.

The workshop, "Leadership Is an Attitude," is free and open to the public. It will especially benefit business owners, management teams and executives, and CEOs.

Columbus Student Veteran Organization receives grant

The Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University has awarded a $2,000 grant to the Student Veteran and Military Club of Columbus, which will use the money to assist and support student service members and veterans on campus.

The award was one of seven grants awarded through Operation Diploma, a Military Family Research Institute (MFRI) initiative launched through a $5.8 million gift from Lilly Endowment Inc. Operation Diploma empowers Indiana’s higher education institutions and Student Veterans Organizations to better serve student service members, veterans entering college for the first time, and those re-entering college after extended service or deployment.

The Student Veteran and Military Club of Columbus includes students from the Purdue’s College of Technology, IUPUC and Ivy Tech Community College, all in Columubs. The students support each other, other student veterans and their families through various projects.

“We are mindful of all those who supported us, so we want to help others,” said Jim Wolfe, president of the SVMA. “We support the USO at Camp Atterbury, and thanks to a donation from IUPUC, we installed 12 computer desks at there.” SVMA will use the Operation Diploma grant to enhance their position on the campus and build on their earlier successes on projects.

“I am very pleased with what these students have accomplished,” said Jack Head, assistant director of Purdue College of Technology location in Columbus. “With the assistance of the MFRI, Operation Diploma and this grant, the students will continue to build a strong support organization that will help new students feel more comfortable as they transition from military life to civilian and college life.”

High-tech job fair aims to match Indiana companies, Purdue students

Indiana companies looking for new employees can recruit from among more than 600 job-hunting Purdue University students at an Oct. 28 job fair.

Employers can register online for the 12th annual High Tech Job Fair for Indiana Companies at http://www.purdue.edu/jobfair. The event, offered by Purdue's Technical Assistance Program for in-state jobs only, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms.

Purdue to host Deming Institute conference

Business people and students from across the country will gather at Purdue University to explore the philosophy of the man credited with improving manufacturing processes and quality control in the United States and Japan.

The W. Edwards Deming Institute Fall Conference will be Oct. 10-11 in Purdue's Stewart Center.

Purdue to host Conference for Collaboration and Innovation

Purdue University's Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision is holding a conference to help those in the workplace work more effectively and creatively in teams, whether team members are working together in person or in the virtual world.

The Conference for Collaboration and Innovation will be Sept. 15-17 in Stewart Center and will feature presentations on subjects including teams and collaboration, leadership and ethics, and creativity and innovation.

College of Technology at Lafayette plans back-to-school event

Purdue University's College of Technology at Lafayette will offer information to prospective students during a back-to-school program Monday (Aug. 10).

The event, which will be from 2:30 to 7 p.m., will be at the Lafayette location at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc.'s training center on Indiana 38.

College of Technology at Anderson holding cookout for prospective students

Purdue University's College of Technology at Anderson and Muncie is inviting area high school juniors and seniors and their parents to an informational cookout July 22 at the Anderson University Flagship Center.

The second annual cookout for prospective students will be from 5-7 p.m. at the Anderson location, 2705 Enterprise Drive off Interstate 69, exit 22.

Purdue to participate in tuition program to support veterans

Military veterans, reserve and active duty military students attending Purdue University's West Lafayette campus and the Technology Statewide sites can use the Yellow Ribbon Program to help pay for their education.

The Yellow Ribbon Program, which is an enhancement of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, will be available Aug. 1. The program lowers tuition costs that would not be fully covered by the GI Bill. Assistance will be awarded to the first 50 Purdue undergraduate, graduate or professional students who qualify. Purdue will contribute $2,000 per academic year, and the Department of Veterans Affairs will match that amount.
