Audio System Test Bed Project

The topics covered by our Consumer Power Electronics course include calculation of audio parameters, design/construction of linear audio amplifiers, and sound level measurements.  Professor Harding wanted a tool to allow direct comparison between a commercial amplifier and the amplifiers designed/built by students in the lab.  That is what led to the Audio System Test Bed project.

A couple of industry donors were key to this project. AE Techron donated an old Crown amplifier and the parts needed to repair it. Harman donated a pair of their JBL Control 1 Pro loudspeakers. Thanks go to Larry Shank at AE Techron and Jim Bumgardner at Harman for their support to get those donations.

The student who implemented this project was Ben Scott. He did a great job doing some custom metal fabrication to mount all of the components in a 6U transport case, as well as some extensive repairs to an old Crown amplifier.
