Describe your potential job duties
Working with various engineering teams at every leveling of the modeling process for 3 dimensional pipe systems.
In what ways did the Polytechnic and/or Purdue help make you uniquely qualified for your new job?
The kinds of software we used in my program at Purdue Polytechnic has since become the industry standard. I will be able to help my new employer completely convert from their old system to a much-improved one as a consequence of my expertise in the relevant software.
Who would you like to thank as you finish your time at Purdue and start your career?
Clark Cory, for not only being a great professor but also as an incredibly valuable career resource. Marta Lah, who was my advisor when I was in Civil Engineering and was immensely considerate as I made the transition into building information-modeling within the Polytechnic.
What specific classes helped prepare you for your new job?
The five classes in the core BIM pipeline were the most helpful. Reflecting on them now, they way they built on each other was intuitive and well-planned. The earlier classes focused on getting familiar with construction software in general. The next introduced more detailed modeling and the task of making construction documents. The later courses developed this by expanding the disciplines modeled (mechanical, electrical, structural, etc.) and the number of people in collaboration.
If you had a favorite class, project, experience, or professor, what/who was it, and why?
My favorite project was the final project I made for CGT 116 (Geometric Modeling For Visualization And Communication). We had the freedom to choose what to model, and I decided to create a detailed model of the Edith Farnsworth House. This house is my favorite piece of architecture, so analyzing the floor plan in depth, recreating everything to scale, and learning more about the concept behind it along the way was all very enjoyable for me.
